This man stepped on a mine at 08:00 and suffered truly appalling injuries. He was in the FST by 08:20 and despite losing a lower leg and having massive injuries to his upper arm survived – a example of the practice of “scoop and scoot” and instant damage limiting surgery.
The wound was initially cleaned with hydrogen peroxide
Three days later things look much better but there are still some small areas of dead tissue to be removed
His leg had multiple injuries from gravel thrown up in the explosion.Hydrogen peroxide was used to clean the wounds. This photograph is after three days.
