The photographs on this site were taken using a basic 35mm fixed lens camera with UV filter purchased in the Muscat Sooq in September 1974. Kodak ASA 64 film was used and the original slides have been ‘digitised’ for this web site. The small camera proved to be ideal for ‘snap shooting’.

David Cuthbertson, an officer of the Small Arms School Corps, was Seconded August 1974 – April 1976 as Training Adviser to SAF and OC Courses Company at SAFTR. He travelled throughout the country to visit units and spent periods of attachment in Dhofar operations as well as what some would term ‘tourist’ training liaison visits.

This third edition of the web site (January 2010) adds a complete section of photographs supplied by Trish Sole of New Zealand who was a civilian nurse at Salalah Hospital 1975/76 and who took part in the Civil Aid Development throughout the areas secured by the military.

All photographs are Copyright but can be made available when requested for appropriate use. File formats for publication can be met at 300 DPI or TIFF, or JPEG resolution sizes at 2560X1920 pixels (more than 4X times the size of the largest on this site).

The passage of time and interpretation of notes made more than 30 years ago may have led to some inaccuracies of names of places. Amendments will be welcomed from anyone who was in Oman during the period covered.

Place names and spelling of local names may vary from those used today. Most of those on this site were accepted as the ‘norm’ during the period covered.
